It is time to do something

Mrs Michelle Bachelete:

My name is Javiera Muñoz, a third year English Pedagogy student. I am writting you let you know about my concern about crime which is affecting considerably to the people in our society.

The problem that very worries me is that we can not be just us, just relaxed and comfortable in streets or even inside of our houses. We need to be always aware of what could happen or if somebody is trying to steal something to you. I do not think it is the way i want to live my life either the way i want the people who i love to do so.

I think you need to improve your laws and enforce them. They are useless if not followed. Therefore there wont be any positive change. I know this is a big challenge wich contains economy and educational issues, but if not do it now, never will be done. So this is the time finally somebody do something for our country.

classroom environment

The video is about a teacher who ask for advice in classroom manage and organization. In his class, he groups students but they distract each other.

Miranda, the reporter, goes to one of the best schools in england. There she talks with the headteacher of the school and he gives her some advices. About the disruptive boys problem, it is difficult because what works in one group it does not in other. It is an issue of personalities. So, mixing children of strong personality with children of shy personality,should be a possible solution. About displays, they show how children are involved in the process of learning. It mainly helps children of the school who’s mayority is learning english as a second or third language. This methods are taking from examples of others schools where they attend to get new and useful ideas. Also teachers do courses, read educational literature, magazines, etc.

The reporter goes to another school where everything is totally different. They are working in evaluating the design of the classroom doing a campaing of learning environment, which should be attractive and bright to stimulate the students learning. They interact with their students asking them what is what distract them and they say: the displays. So it is something that differs from each environment. About environment, they work with students to improve class order. In this, temperature, lighting, air, access to water affects in learning.

Then an orthoscopic is asked about the subject and he says: that in classroom design, visual environment affects the students’ performance, though there is not an ideal design. It is also divided in special needs learning and other factors that makes the difference in learning strategies. As a general advice, he gives two main points to follow: the first, students should be sitted facing the teacher. The second is about lighting conditions.
